Our Heritage Center, located in the northwest corner of the Isanti County Fairgrounds, off Highway 95 and Flanders Street in Cambridge, was set on fire by an arsonist on July 8, 2011 and burned to the ground.

ICHS Sites

In our effort to preserve Isanti County's history, the Isanti County Historical Society manages seven buildings.
Among them are (click on names for more information):

• West Riverside Museum School
Located off County Road 14, this school was saved by a number of citizens who asked that District 911 preserve it. Each summer, children return and step back in time during five sessions of Old Time School.

• Edblad Pioneer Cabin
Located off County Road 14 next to West Riverside Museum School, folks who tour this cabin discover what life was life for the pioneers. Rooms are small, but cozy, and the heart of the cabin is in the kitchen. Don't miss sampling krum kakas when someone's in the kitchen during various events.

• St. John's Lutheran Church of Bradford
Located off County Road 5, St. John's Lutheran Church was beautifully restored for its 125th anniversary. Gather at the small church in January for a traditional Epiphany Service; one is offered in German and another in English.

• Spencer Brook Country School
Recently restored, Spencer Brook Country School was the first school to open in Isanti County. Minnesota's Governor Clough attended this one-room school that his father helped pay to build.

• Mattson 1870s Pioneer Log Cabin
Located on the grounds of the Heritage Center (NW corner of the Isanti County Fairgrounds), this cabin is in the middle of renovation. To help out, call the ICHS office at 763-689-4229.

• Olson Summer Kitchen
During the hot days of summer, the Rookie Olson family did all their cooking in the summer kitchen. The building was moved to the Heritage Center property in 2006.

• Heritage Center
Phase one of the Heritage Center was completed in 2006. The building currently houses our staff and archives, while providing a community room for the public to rent.
