General Questions

How do I donate an object, document or other historical artifact to ICHS?
We are thrilled to hear that you are considering donating a treasured artifact to the historical society. When deciding whether or not to accept an item, we first consider whether we have something like it in our collection already, and what value it casts on the history of Isanti County. We have limited space in our building, and must make many tough decisions about what we can keep ourselves. We also ask: 1) Based on our Mission Statement, what significance does this item have to Isanti County? 2) Was the item manufactured in Isanti County? If so, what was the name of the manufacturer? 3) What is the condition of the item? 4) Is the donating party able to provide some history for the item? We recommend that you speak with Ruth Anderson at ICHS regarding your item. You can do this by calling 763-689-4229 on Tuesdays or sending an email to ichs@izoom.net . Click here for additional information.

What types of items can I donate to ICHS?
We accept a wide variety of items at the historical society. Items that are easiest for us to store include photographs and family histories, but if we feel that a large item is also valuable for our members, we will accept that on a case-by-case basis. We recommend that you speak with Ruth Anderson at ICHS regarding your item. You can do this by calling 763-689-4229 on Tuesdays or sending an email to ichs@izoom.net . Click here for additional information.

What youth camps do you conduct?
We love kids and offer several camps each summer. Choose from 5 weeks of Old Time School at West Riverside Museum School from June to July. In August, we offer a five-day Swedish School for the older kids and a three-day Pre-school Swedish School for preschoolers. Click here for additional information.

How do I rent your facilities?
Glad you asked! You can click here and see what we have online, which includes a list of the facilities for rent, photos of past events, equipment, policies, fees and wedding packages. Or, contact our Executive Director Kathy McCully at ichsdirector@izoom.net or 763-689-4229.

Where are you located?
We are situated in the northeast corner of the Isanti County Fairgrounds off Highway 95. Do you know where Lowe’s and Kohl's in Cambridge are? We’re close to them. Click here for directions and a map.

I need help finding historical information. Do you do research for others?
Yes, we can! Our skilled staff would love to answer your questions. If you know what you’d like, feel free to email ichs@izoom.net or call 763-689-4229. Or click here to fill out an online form. We do not charge for the time it takes our staff to help you, but we do ask for a donation, suggesting $10 an hour. We also charge for copies. Click here for additional information.

Can I volunteer anytime?
We are always looking for volunteers! We’d love to have you share your skills and time with us. Maureen Hasan is our volunteer coordinator. She’ll be happy to put you to work, whether it is staffing an event, inputing data into our computer systems or completing a project you suggest. Click here to fill out an online volunteer form. Click here to browse through a list of volunteer jobs.

When and where do you hold your board meetings?
Our board meetings are held once a month at the Heritage Center. While we encourage ICHS members to attend meetings, we ask that you let Board President Kay Rodrigue or Executive Director Kathy McCully know that you plan to attend a meeting. Unless you request to be added to the agenda 2 weeks ahead of time, we will expect that all you intend to do is listen and observe.

How do I get on the agenda of a board meeting?
To share your thoughts and opinions with our board of directors, please contact Board President Kay Rodrigue.

Who can attend board meetings?
If you’re interested in attending a board meeting, please contact our executive director Kathy McCully or Board President Kay Rodrigue and explain what your interest is.

I would like to be a vendor at your upcoming fundraiser. Who should I contact?
We are delighted to hear about your interest in being a vendor at our next fundraiser. Please contact Kathy McCully for details at ichs@izoom.net or 763-689-4229.

When will the Taste of Home Cooking School return?
We typically host a Taste of Home Cooking School every other year, and plan to host another in the spring of 2011.
