Edblad Cabin

In 1859 Isaac and Christine Edblad and their family built a two-room log cabin on a high bank overlooking the Rum River at a point one mile north of Cambridge, Minnesota. They had come to Osceola, Wisconsin from Sweden in 1857 but left for safer territory three days before a rebel Indian band ravaged the area. The Edblad cabin was the only home in the wilderness for miles around. As other immigrants arrived they found free lodging in this home while looking for homestead property in the area. The son of a Lutheran pastor, Isaac invited people from miles around to services he led in his home. Before long the house became too small to accommodate the group so he built a lean-to on the cabin. It was here in 1864 that the Cambridge Lutheran Church was organized.

In 1972, the descendents of Isaac and Christine Edblad purchased the Youngquist house and had it moved to the West Riverside site. The cabin was practically identical to Isaac's home in size and appearance with the addition of the new log lean-to constructed by J. Albert Larson. By 1980, this log home was completely restored and furnished by members of the Edblad family.
